A videoconference of ministers of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) took place on 19 November. First Deputy Education Minister Irina Starovoitova took part in it on behalf of the Belarusian Education Ministry, BelTA has learned.

The official said: “Belarus has done a considerable amount of work in association with the Bologna process observation group and European colleagues since the country joined the European Higher Education Area in 2015. The main directions of reformation of the national higher education system meet common European principles and criteria and are being implemented in line with the strategic action plan on fulfilling the main tasks of development of the higher education system in accordance with principles and instruments of the European Higher Education Area.” The strategic action plan was adopted in 2018.

Irina Starovoitova stressed that a lot had been done but a lot had yet to be done. “I would like to use this opportunity to thank all our European colleagues who have been with us all this time. I would like to emphasize once again that the Education Ministry reaffirms its dedication to further implementation of principles and tools of the European Higher Education Area into Belarus' higher education system. In a bid to reinforce mutually beneficial relations we express hope for joint work for the sake of peaceful, stable, and sustainable development,” she added.

Italy is the organizer of this year's conference of ministers of the European Higher Education Area. The next conference will be hosted by Albania in 2024. Participants of the Bologna process are 48 countries and a number of international bodies. San Marino joined them in 2020.
