Lukashenko attends CIS summit in Turkmenistan

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko is taking part in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in Turkmenistan’s Awaza national tourist zone on 9 October, BelTA has learned.

The official part of the summit began with a welcoming ceremony for the heads of delegations. The Belarusian president was greeted by his Turkmen counterpart, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, with whom Aleksandr Lukashenko had held a bilateral meeting earlier before the summit.

The state leaders will discuss cooperation within the CIS, which marks its 35th anniversary this year. In his address at the meeting, Aleksandr Lukashenko will outline the Belarusian side’s position on current issues of the CIS activities, as well as the potential and future prospects of this international organization.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will join CIS leaders at the Heads of State Council expanded session as a special guest invited by Turkmenistan.
The agenda of the meeting includes more than 15 items, including social development and quality of life, CIS transport connectivity, joint efforts in the information space, law enforcement cooperation, and the preservation of historical memory.
In the evening of 8 October, Aleksandr Lukashenko attended an official reception hosted by the president of Turkmenistan for the heads of delegations.
