Plans to scrap roaming charges between Belarus, Russia in 2021

Roaming charges between Belarus and the Russian Federation have already been reduced seven times, and roaming charges will be finally canceled by the end of 2021, State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev said following a meeting of the High-Level Group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State on 7 April, BelTA has learned.

“I know that many are looking forward to scrapping roaming charges. Today the heads of two ministries confirmed that the interconnect rates dropped 20 times. The cost of the traffic itself has already been reduced from three to seven times depending on the provider. The work will be continued, and by the end of the year the cost of mobile communication between Belarus and Russia will be the same as the rates applied within Belarus and within Russia,” Dmitry Mezentsev informed.

The meeting of the High-Level Group was co-chaired by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko and Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk. It was also attended by Executive Secretary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Sergei Strelchenko, heads of Belarusian and Russian ministries, senior diplomats of the diplomatic missions of the two countries, representatives of the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
