The head of the KPRF faction in the State Duma of Russia, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF) Gennady Zyuganov has released a statement addressed to Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of Russia Vladimir Putin. The KPRF press service sent a copy of the statement to BelTA's news office in Moscow.

According to the statement, the union of nations of Belarus and Russia is going through a historical period of time, during which the brotherhood forged in struggles, victories, and coexistence is exposed to intricate attacks from the outside and from within. The KPRF leader believes that the same forces that are attacking the unity of nations of Russia and Ukraine are at fault.

Gennady Zyuganov believes that the union of Belarus and Russia represents the foundation of economic, political, and military security, the key element of security of members of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Eurasian Economic Union. “It places a special responsibility on us,” the statement reads.

“The cynical assault against Belarus was planned a long time ago. Today it is connected to the presidential election held on 9 August. Its strategic goal is to destroy the Belarusian statehood and our union, thus weakening all the CIS states and severing their integration ties,” the statement reads.

Gennady Zyuganov stated that Belarus had managed to preserve the best Soviet practices and multiply them. Belarus' economic potential has been steadily growing for the last 25 years. “If antinational forces led by curators from Washington, Warsaw, and Vilnius manage to destroy the unique accomplishments, it will put an end to the young Belarusian statehood. It will also deliver a serious blow to Russia's interests, will deprive the country of its most important and reliably ally on the continent. It will compromise the security and stability in the entire Eurasian space,” Gennady Zyuganov is convinced.

The KPRF leader suggested an action program to bolster Belarusian-Russian cooperation. It includes the introduction of daily joint sessions of the governments of Belarus and Russia, efforts to ensure effective operation of the Union State parliament, the expansion of mutually beneficial economic cooperation, maximum enhancement of interaction between regions of Belarus and Russia and the creation of a broad network of joint ventures, a massive increase in the enrollment of Belarusian students in Russian universities, the organization of regular internships for young Belarusian scientists in the Russian Academy of Sciences, coordinated fight against the coronavirus, support for the mass media that promote stronger ties between the nations and interstate interaction.

Gennady Zyuganov stressed: “Our joint survival and successful development hinge on the friendship of Russia and Belarus, the reinforcement of the young Belarusian statehood and the Union State of Belarus and Russia as a whole.”
