Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend a meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council in Minsk on 12 April, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing for the press in Moscow on 10 April, BelTA has learned.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend a meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council in Minsk on 12 April, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing for the press in Moscow on 10 April, BelTA has learned.
"Minsk will play host to the first of the year meeting of the CIS Foreign Minister Council on 12 April. It will be chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The foreign ministers are set to exchange views on current international and regional issues, discuss the main areas of work, primarily in the format of the CIS, with an emphasis on the priorities of Russia's chairmanship in the CIS in 2024," Maria Zakharova said.
"The ministers will pay particular attention to building up cooperation in ensuring security in the CIS region, joint efforts to counter traditional and new challenges and threats, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including in the context of preparations for the Year of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War declared in the CIS in 2025," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The ministers will take stock of the results of the plan of multi-level ministerial consultations within the CIS and the action program to intensify the partnership between the foreign ministries of the CIS member states in 2023.
"As part of the effort to strengthen foreign policy coordination, the ministers are expected to adopt a number of joint statements. Some of the documents approved at the meeting will be submitted for subsequent approval to the heads of the CIS member states," Maria Zakharova added.
