Agreement on parallel operation of Belarusian, Russian power grids amended

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has approved a draft protocol on amending and expanding the Belarusian-Russian intergovernmental agreement on certain measures meant to enable parallel operation of the joint energy system of Belarus and the joint energy system of Russia of 15 March 2021. The president signed relevant decree No.327 on 19 October, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.

According to the draft protocol, the parties are supposed to secure active power balance if a unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant gets disconnected. Names of Russian legal persons, which help maintain the parallel operation of the power grids, have been updated.

The document's realization will allow enhancing energy security and the reliability of operation of the energy systems.

The draft protocol has been approved as the basis for negotiations. The government has been authorized to conduct the negotiations and sign the document provided the parties come to terms within limits of the approved draft.
