Belarusian Railways increased passenger traffic to Russia by 11.7% in 2025

In 2025, Belarusian Railways carried over 58 million passengers across all modes of service. According to the Belarusian Railways press center following the technical and economic council, the most popular modes of service were interregional and international.
On routes to the Russian Federation, including transit trains, 3.6 million passengers were carried, an 11.7% increase over the 2024 figure. First Deputy Head of the Belarusian Railways, Alexander Khoroshevich, noted that 2025 was a period of intense work for the team, and although not all plans were fulfilled, the railway continued to develop and ensured the stable operation of the transport system.

First Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Grigory Glazko assessed the team's performance over the past year. He noted that the Belarusian Railway's commitment to qualitative transformation has already yielded certain results. Glazko noted that development directions for 2026 have been defined within the framework of the socio-economic development program for 2026-2030 and the "Railway Transport" subprogram. Maintaining operational and financial discipline, he stated, will improve the economic impact of operations and develop new approaches to the development of freight and passenger transportation.
Valery Verenich, Head of Belarusian Railways, announced that 2026 will be a year of technological improvement at Belarusian Railways. The key goal will be the targeted implementation and scaling of advanced technological and organizational solutions to improve the efficiency, safety, reliability, and competitiveness of core business processes. The development of digital services and professional staff competencies will also be a focus. Verenich emphasized that to achieve the planned objectives, it is necessary to respond quickly to market changes, improve productivity, and strictly maintain discipline. The technical and economic council was held at the Belarusian Railways headquarters, with representatives from ministries, parliament, the trade union, and the management of the railway's structural divisions participating.
