The first part of the results of a large-scale comprehensive republican sociological study, which concerns topical issues of socio-economic development of Belarus, was presented in Minsk, BELTA reported.

The sociological study was conducted from July to August 2026 by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, commissioned by the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research (BISR).

"We are presenting the first part of our results today. Let’s look at a cluster of socioeconomic issues. Then there will be a block on the socio-political situation in the country. And the final presentation will focus on resonant issues. We studied various aspects of the social well-being of our country’s inhabitants. More than 2,000 respondents were surveyed, representing all regions of Belarus. The study involved both men and women, family and non-family people with different levels of education. The sample population represents the entire population of the country. Residents of 99 localities participated in the study, who shared with interviewers their opinion on how satisfied they are with living conditions in their locality, what are their priorities regarding work, leisure, and value orientations. This palette gives us the opportunity to imagine what modern Belarusians are living and how comfortable they feel in their home country", - said the director of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences Nikolai Myslivets.

Vitaly Punchenko, deputy director of BISR, called the sociological study the most significant project in recent times for the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences and the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research. "This is not just a study, it’s a tool for strategic awareness. The results presented are representative and comprehensive in terms of both population coverage and the diversity of questions asked," he stressed.

According to him, the need for such a comprehensive study is due to many factors. "Firstly, the clock reconciliation at the start of the new five-year period. The program of socio-economic development adopted at the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly is based on popular proposals. Today, it is important to assess the primary results of priorities not only statistically but also sociologically. It is very important now to maintain a close connection with citizens, to hear their opinions, aspirations and fears," - emphasized Vitaly Punchenko.

"Secondly, the world is changing rapidly and waiting for no one. This is not just about the unprecedented external turbulence, in which we need to assess honestly and objectively the situation at home, the willingness of society to work intensively together on the peaceful front that the head of state is calling us to. The rapid development of technology. Artificial intelligence is parading around the planet, and Belarus is no exception. Technology is already changing, and in the near future will change public attitudes even more about labor, law, and communication. It is necessary to understand the public’s readiness for these changes, to see the problem points, and to work out countermeasures by the state to avoid digital inequality," - indicated the deputy director of BISR.

Another aspect of the study is related to the approaching National Unity Day." On the eve of the country’s main unifying holiday, it is decisively important to see the real points of intersection and divergence between the interests of young people and pensioners, inhabitants of villages amd cities in different parts of our country. It is important to take into account the opinion of everyone and on this basis gradually improve our social contract and strengthen the trust of society in the state," - concluded Vitaly Punchenko.

2,045 respondents participated in the sociological study, including 22.3% from Minsk, 16.3% from Minsk oblast, 14.3% from Gomel, 14.2% from Brest, 11.7% from Vitebsk, 10.7% from Grodno and 10.5% from Mogilev oblast. Of these, 78.9 per cent are urban and 21.1 per cent rural.

Of the respondents, 55.3% were women and 44.7% were men. They fall into different age groups: 18.6% of participants are 18-30 years old, 51.8% of participants are from 31 to 57 years old for women and 62 for men, 29.6% are from 58 years old for women and 63 for men.

40.9% of respondents have higher education, 44.2% have technical  education, 14.9% have basic (up to 9 grades) or general education (up to 11 grades).
55.4% of the participants in the study are married, 17.3% are single, 12.9% are widows or widowers, and 10.8% are divorced. 75.6% of respondents have children.
