85.2% of Belarusians are proud of their peaceful life - survey results

Belarusians were asked what achievements of modern Belarus they take pride in, as demonstrated by the results of a nationwide sociological survey focusing on pressing issues related to the country’s socio‑economic development, BelTA has learned.

Thus, 85.2% of respondents said they take pride in the peaceful life, 62.5% - in the quality of food products, 57.9% - in the cleanliness and tidiness of populated areas, 37.9% - in the preservation of historical memory, and 36% - in the social protection of the population. People also take pride in the development of agriculture, the preservation of large-scale industrial production, the achievements of Belarusian medical professionals, the education system, and the development of nuclear energy.
“The fact that Belarusians put life under a peaceful sky in first place is an indicator of their understanding of the difficulties that exist in the world, and a recognition of the role of the state and the policies of our president. Previous generations held the same position. As long as there is no war. Life shows that this is truly the most important value. The enormous efforts the state makes in developing the economy and focusing on the younger generation are all directed toward ensuring a peaceful life,” said Nikolai Myslivets, director of the Institute of Sociology at the National Academy of Sciences.
Other values are also important to Belarusians, in particular social protection. “The state provides us with the appropriate infrastructure, creates opportunities for self-fulfillment, and provides preferences and benefits,” the director of the institute noted.
“A welfare state is an immutable value for our society. Belarusians take pride in this and treat it with care. When this survey was being drawn up, it was very important for us to learn whether society values what the state does to ensure a peaceful life and to provide social protection. We see that society values the efforts of the state,” said Vitaly Punchenko, deputy director of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research (BISR).
The Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus conducted the comprehensive nationwide sociological survey in July-August 2026 upon request of BISR. It involved 2,045 respondents from all regions of the country. Today the first part of results of the sociological survey that focuses on the key matters of social and economic development in Belarus was presented in Minsk.
