The Governor of St. Petersburg: the “Every Third” project represents the collective memory of all the republics that forged the Victory

“The requiem concert "Every Third" is truly a shared memory of all the republics of the Soviet Union that forged the Victory, both at the front and in the rear. We were all ready to sacrifice anything for our common Victory. Our friendship with fraternal Belarus is the strongest, the most reliable. We have been through everything. We share a common Victory, a common memory, and our main pride — our veterans. And our presidents — Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko — teach us to preserve this memory so that no one dares to rewrite history,” said Alexander Beglov.

He noted that Belarus and St. Petersburg are connected by a tragic history. “By the time the blockade began, 24,000 boys and girls from the Byelorussian SSR were studying in our city. Unfortunately, half of them died during the blockade. And in memory of them, an obelisk was erected at the Piskarevskoe Cemetery. It is important that we remember this, because the residents of our city, no matter how difficult it was, were ready to work, to fight, to die for the city, but, most importantly, to win. And they won.” “They won for us, so that we could live, speak our native language, and preserve our spiritual and family values. It is very important that we remember them,” the governor concluded.
