Opinion: Parliamentary republic is least effective form of government during times of change

A parliamentary republic is the least effective way of running a country that is going through transformations, Director – Editor-in-Chief of the Belarus Segodnya publishing house Dmitry Zhuk told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA informs.

“The parliamentary form of government is least effective in the times of change, because it is impossible to make a decision,” Dmitry Zhuk noted.
Both Western countries and post-Soviet states were cited as examples during the program. For example, Armenia is going through continuous unrest and division of power. “Look at how the government is being formed in Italy and how often the government has changed. If not for that, their development would certainly have been more dynamic and sustainable. However, Italy is a rich country, with long-standing traditions of democracy and economic model. For us, the post-Soviet republics, this will mean death,” Dmitry Zhuk said.
