Belarus and the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom are cooperating across a wide range of areas and intend to continue this interaction, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said during a meeting with Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Turchin expressed gratitude to Alexey Likhachev for his personal involvement in the construction of Belarus’ first nuclear power plant and his support in implementing this large-scale national project. On behalf of the Belarusian president, the premier presented Alexey Likhachev with the Order of Honor.

“For many years, the Republic of Belarus and Rosatom have maintained close ties not only in nuclear energy. During today’s meeting, I’d like to discuss all aspects of our cooperation. There is much to talk about, and one of the key topics is the continuation of our interaction in nuclear energy,” Aleksandr Turchin said.

The parties also touched upon digitalization, cooperation in medicine, a joint electric vehicle project, and other areas.

Alexey Likhachev expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet and for the high praise of the work. “We are fulfilling the instruction given to us by Aleksandr Grigorievich [Lukashenko] at the end of 2023: not to leave Belarus after the commissioning of the nuclear power plant, but to expand cooperation,” he noted. “In fact, at the very beginning of 2024, the relevant documents were signed and a roadmap was developed. In just over a year of implementing these documents, we already have tangible results to present. Most importantly, we have a vast number of future development plans. We estimate that turnover in new areas exceeded RUB 10 billion last year. We believe we will reach a figure 1.5 times higher in 2025, and that won’t be the limit.”

The Rosatom director general emphasized that all joint projects have shown strong results and development potential. Rosatom also has proposals for expanding the scope of cooperation in the interests of both countries’ economies and peoples.
