St. Petersburg International Economic Forum kicks off in Russia

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) begins its work in the northern Russian capital, BelTA reports.

The St. Petersburg Forum, which will last until 21 June, is an authoritative international platform for dialogue between business, government, the scientific and expert communities. Approximately 20,000 participants from 140 countries have confirmed their participation in SPIEF this year. This includes heads of state, government delegations, heads of international organizations, representatives of leading corporations, and experts.
This year, the SPIEF focuses on finding common guidelines in the context of global turbulence, rethinking cooperation models and shaping the foundations of sustainable development. The business program is divided into five main groups: "The World Economy: A New Platform of Global Growth," "The Russian Economy: A New Quality of Growth," "A Human Being in a New World," "The Environment for Living" and "Technologies: Aspiration for Leadership." The program includes a total of 150 session and more than a thousand speakers and moderators. The forum will officially open on 19 June.
The forum will bring together representatives of BRICS, SCO, EAEU and ASEAN countries. Cooperation between Belarus and Russia will be explored during a special session "The Union State: at the turn of the era" moderated by State Secretary of the Union State Sergey Glazyev. A wide representation of Belarusian participants is expected at the session. Representatives of Belarus are expected to speak at many other events.
The plenary session on 20 June, the central event of the forum, will feature Russian President Vladimir Putin and also Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto; Bahrain King's Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, National Security Advisor and Royal Guard Commander Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa; Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ding Xuexiang; and Vice President of South Africa Paul Mashatile. On the sidelines of the forum, Vladimir Putin is set to hold a traditional meeting with heads of international news agencies. The question-and-answer session will be focused on Russia’s domestic and foreign affairs.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is the premier annual economic conference in Russia. It has been held under the patronage of the Russian president since 2006. The organizer is the Roscongress Foundation.
