Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko outlined promising areas of cooperation between Belarus and Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast as he held a meeting with Governor of Kaliningrad Oblast Alexey Besprozvannykh in Minsk on 9 June, the press service of the Government of Belarus told BelTA.

Yuri Shuleiko emphasized that the governor’s visit is an important step to strengthen ties between the brotherly nations of Belarus and Russia. "Focus on our joint projects and readiness for dialogue is the foundation on which we build the future," he noted.

The vice premier pointed out that Belarus has sufficient resources to meet Kaliningrad Oblast’s needs for modern freight and passenger vehicles, road construction and utility machinery and equipment. "The participation of Belarusian manufacturers in import substitution programs and localization of production in automotive engineering to supply essential components could become promising areas of industrial cooperation [between Belarus and Kaliningrad Oblast," Yuri Shuleiko stated.

Belarus is ready to increase the supply of its agricultural machinery under the state program "Development of Agriculture in Kaliningrad Oblast". According to the deputy prime minister, given the interest of Kaliningrad’s residents in high-quality Belarusian food products, Belarus is keen to supply the region with the necessary volumes of meat and dairy products, butter, vegetables, sugar, confectionery and other foodstuffs.

"Industrial horticulture is another area in which we are willing to continue cooperation with your farmers. Belarusian seedlings have already been the foundation for several orchards in the region," Yuri Shuleiko concluded.
