Plans to add new impetus to Belarus-Russia regional forum

The preparations for the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia are at the opening stage. Plans are in place to add a new impetus to the event, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said in an interview to the ONT TV channel.

The first joint meeting of the organizing committees of Belarus and Russia took place in March. “We are now at the initial stage of preparing for the Forum of Regions. Of course, it should be memorable for the new contracts to be concluded by the business community, the agreements to be signed by the regions of our countries. It is very important,” said Natalya Kochanova.

According to her, the forum will feature exhibitions and sales, as well as sections on the basis of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. “We are still thinking over the content to give a new impetus to the forum, because it is already a good tradition," said the chairwoman of the Council of the Republic.

It is expected that more than 500 people will take part in the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, which is scheduled for autumn 2020. The business agenda will be an important part of the program: Belarusian and Russian business circles will discuss the prospects of cooperation and new joint projects. Cooperation agreements and commercial contracts will be signed.

Participants in the sections will discuss inter-parliamentary cooperation in the context of preserving the historical heritage, patriotic education, support for rural youth, joint economic projects, cooperation at international platforms. A meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia is planned to discuss interregional cooperation. There are also plans to hold a meeting of the speakers of the upper houses of the Belarusian and Russian parliaments with the heads of regions of the two countries.
