Belarus, Russia align approaches to Union State security

In accordance with the provisions of the treaty on security guarantees within the Union State between Russia and Belarus, a regular meeting of the special representatives of the parties was held in Moscow on 23-24 September. The meeting was led by Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Sekreta and Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Grushko, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties conducted a comprehensive review of the security situation in the Union State, current and projected threats and joint measures being taken to address them as part of the implementation of the treaty and the Union State security concept, with a focus on nuclear and biological security.
“Particular attention was paid to assessing the escalation policies and military buildup of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU), coordinating efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, organized crime and drug trafficking, as well as illegal migration. We also aligned our positions on countering unlawful economic and financial restrictive measures,” the press service said.
The delegations confirmed that Belarus and Russia share the same approaches to ensuring the reliable security of the Union State and recognize the importance of the treaty as a solid foundation for deepening cooperation in this area.
The next meeting in this format will be held in Minsk in the first half of 2027.
