Athletes from Belarus, Russia to compete at Victory Day boxing tournament

An open boxing tournament marking the Victory Day will kick off in Gomel on 3 May, BelTA learned from the organizers.

Some 70 boxers from various cities of Belarus and Russia will compete for medals in the Lokomotiv cultural and sports center.
Two days of preliminary fights will follow with semifinals on 5 May. The final bouts, the awards and closing ceremony will take place on 6 May.
According to chief judge Aleksandr Kaleyev, the tournament makes part of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) calendar and is a qualifying event. EUBC technical delegate (supervisor) from Armenia Derenik Gabrielyan will assess the quality of the tournament and confirm its class.
The boxing tournament is a traditional event aimed at promotion of boxing, strengthening of friendly ties between the countries, improvement of boxers' sports skills.
The organizers are the Belarusian Boxing Federation, the sports and tourism department of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, the Gomel Oblast Martial Arts Olympic Reserve Center.
