The Russian president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that the mediation efforts exercised by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko had been made for a higher cause – to avoid bloodshed, TASS reports.

Dmitry Peskov stressed that Moscow highly appreciates the contribution of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to the resolution of the conflict.

The official remarked that there are no plans for a new address by President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

Dmitry Peskov went on saying that the criminal case against the boss of the Russian private military company Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin will be closed. He added that the Russian government will not persecute Wagner fighters, who had taken part in the armed mutiny, bearing in mind their accomplishments at the front. Apart from that, all Wagner fighters will be offered an opportunity to sign a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry.

Dmitry Peskov also noted that Wagner's founder Yevgeny Prigozhin will go to Belarus.

Asked about personnel reshuffling in the Russian Defense Ministry, Dmitry Peskov noted that it is up to the Russian president to decide and it was unlikely the matter had been discussed during negotiations on ending the mutiny.
