The XXXII Minsk International Film Festival "Listapad" held its grand opening today at the Moskva cinema in the capital, a correspondent Soyuz.by reports.

The film festival opened with the Belarusian-Russian production "Batka Minai: A Partisan Legend" (a joint project by the Belarusfilm and VoenFilm studios). The film tells the story of Hero of the Soviet Union and Belarusian partisan Minai Shmyrev. It was directed by People's Artist of Russia Igor Ugolnikov, who also worked on the films "In August of 1944" and "Brest Fortress."

Traditionally, the festival will feature eight competitive programs: the Main Competition for Feature Films, the Main Competition for Non-Fiction Films, the Main Competition for Animated Films, the "Listapadzik" Competition for Children’s and Youth Films, the "Cinema of the Young" Competition, the Short Film Competition, the National Film Schools Competition, and the "National Competition." Screenings will take place at the Moskva, Belarus, Tsentralny, Pobeda, and Pioner cinemas.

The jury includes prominent figures and leading international-level experts in the field of cinema.

More than 3,300 submissions from 108 countries were received for the film festival’s competition screenings. Films from 55 countries will take part. The "Listapad" festival will also feature dedicated showcases for the cinema of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, India, and China.

In addition to the opening and closing ceremonies, the Moskva Cinema will host competitive screenings and various meetings. Tomorrow, October 31, a round table on cooperation between Belarus and Russia in the field of film production and distribution—held under the auspices and patronage of the Standing Committee of the Union State—will take place at the National Library of the Republic of Belarus. That same day will feature an evening in memory of director Viktor Turov. On November 2, there will be a special screening organized in collaboration with partners from the Russian Federation, as well as a round table for representatives of educational institutions from CIS countries—hosted at the CIS Executive Committee—to discuss the development of film education across the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Furthermore, the Academy of Arts, the Belarusfilm studio, and the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts will, as is tradition, host creative meetings and masterclasses.
