Belarusian MPs to monitor presidential election in Russia

A delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia will monitor progress of the presidential election in Russia on 15-17 March as part of the mission sent by the Commonwealth of Independent States, BelTA has learned.

The delegation includes members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, personnel of the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The delegation will be led by Olga Petrashova, member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, First Deputy Executive Secretary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

The observers sent by the Parliamentary Assembly will visit polling stations in Moscow and in Smolensk Oblast. They intend to meet with top officials of Russia’s Central Election Commission, representatives of election commissions of constituent entities of the Russian Federation, district commissions, territorial commissions, and polling station commissions. While in Russia they also intend to meet with heads of legislative and executive bodies of Russian regions.

Members of the Parliamentary Assembly intend to sum up results of their work in the capacity of international observers at a press conference on 18 March, the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia said.
