Belarus-Russia Union State border security discussed in Brest

The 54th session of the Board of the Border Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia took place in Brest on 20 May, the State Border Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

Representatives of the Border Service of Russia's FSB led by First Deputy Director, Head of the Border Service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, Army General Vladimir Kulishov, representatives of the State Border Committee of Belarus led by the committee's Chairman, Lieutenant-General Anatoly Lappo, Deputy State Secretary, member of the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Aleksei Kubrin, the head of the representative office of the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Minsk Marianna Shchetkina, top officials of the Brest Oblast administration, and other officials took part in the session.

Participants of the session discussed border security at the external border and in the near-border territory of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The harmonization of laws and regulations of Belarus and Russia in the area of border policy was also discussed as well as scientific support for routine operations of the Belarusian border service and the Russian one.

Participants of the session also discussed a draft concept of the program on developing the border security of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in 2023-2027. The main purpose of the program is to implement the main provisions of the border policy and bolster the border security of Belarus and Russia through measures meant to neutralize the main threats to the security and interests of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

The main tasks of the program include the protection of interests of the states parties to the program for the sake of more reliable protection of the external border of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the enabling of conditions able to counteract terrorism, international drugs trafficking, import of temporarily banned goods, the theft of natural resources, illegal migration, and other threats to security and interests of Belarus and Russia in the border space. The document's implementation will make border service work more effective by means of accomplishing the external border of the Belarus-Russia Union State and enabling favorable conditions for Belarusian and Russian border personnel.

A resolution of the Board of the Border Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on the items on the agenda was signed as a result of the session.
