Roaming between Belarus and Russia may be cancelled in autumn. The Communications Ministries of the two countries are planning to complete all the necessary activities by October, said State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota following the meeting of the High Level Group of the Union State Council of Ministers.

“Naturally, the meeting discussed the issue of roaming cancellation. This item is of interest to everyone now. The point is that the Ministries of Communications have a road map which states that they are to solve the issue by this October, or at least to come up for the completion. We do our best to finalize the process. The roadmap is carried out according to schedule; there are no problems in this regard. The Communications Ministries of both countries promised that the issue would be resolved by October,” noted Grigory Rapota.

The meeting also raised the issue of natural gas tariffs for Belarus. According to the State Secretary, the Ministries of Energy are now dealing with this issue.

“They (the ministries, ed.) were given the instructions to discuss all the issues that concern the Belarusian side, and, as a result, to find a solution that would satisfy both parties. They also discussed the mutual recognition of visas. I think that by the end of the year the issue will also be resolved,” said the State Secretary.

The meeting participants discussed the access of Belarusian goods and enterprises to the Russian market. Grigory Rapota noted that these issues were not political in nature. Moreover, they discussed the intergovernmental agreement on mutual recognition of bank guarantees which are necessary for state and municipal procurements.

They also considered such routine issues as approving the agendas of meetings of the Council of Ministers and Supreme State Council of the Union State. As for the next meeting of the High-Level Group, it is scheduled for September. Until this moment, the participants of the High-Level Group “must explore everything that they planned for today.”
