I will discuss further steps to modernize the missile production with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to discuss missile production in Minks on 21 August, BelTA has learned.

“I will consult with the Russian president on how we will proceed, whether our proposals and further steps to modernize and establish missile production in the Union States will be of interest to the Russian Federation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian leader highlighted the dynamics of military threats and the substantial increase in military spending by Western neighbors. According to the president, this is why closest attention is paid to matters of Belarus's defense capability, including within the framework of the Union State. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account the country's relatively limited experience in such a complex industry as missile manufacturing, which has been developed in part with Russia's support.
