Moscow hosts meeting of Belarusian, Russian athletes' commissions

A joint meeting of the Athletes' Commissions of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus and the Russian Olympic Committee is taking place in Moscow on 14-15 September. The major topics of the meeting are the discussion of the requirements imposed on Belarusian and Russian athletes by the International Olympic Committee, and the prospects for retiring athletes, BelTA has learned.

Welcoming the participants of the meeting, President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko called the relevance of the meeting obvious in the current conditions in international sports. “The relevance of such a meeting, given the current situation in international sport, is more than obvious. We have recently worked out a good calendar of sport events together with Russia. Athletes get enough practice,” he said.

Viktor Lukashenko expressed confidence that the proposals to be discussed in Moscow would have an impact on the development of sports not only in Belarus and Russia, but also across the globe.

The event in Moscow has brought together over 250 specialists. Belarus is represented at the event by Ksenia Sankovich, Acting Secretary General of the NOC of Belarus, Aliaksandr Bahdanovich, Chairman of the Athletes' Commission, Liudmila Kalinchik, a member of the Commission, as well as invited athletes Karyna Dziominskaya (archery), Ruslan Skamaroshka (swimming), Pavel Dzik (aerials) and others. Russia is represented by Olympic participants Anastasia Maximova, Evgeny Rylov, Artur Dalaloyan, Nikita Nagorny, Aliya Mustafina, Sofia Pozdnyakova, Alexander Tretyakov and others.

In addition to the plenary session, the event will comprise panel discussions to consider issues of interest to both current athletes and those who have completed or are completing their sports careers. Each discussion group is expected to compile documents including proposals and wishes of the participants.
