The drug will contain elements of S-protein from three strains – wuhan strain, delta and omicron, said Alexander Ginzburg, director of the N.F. Gamaleya Center, TASS reports.

The vaccine against a new coronavirus infection based on virus-like particles will contain S-protein elements from three strains - wuhan, delta and omicron - to produce antibodies to them, said Alexander Ginzburg, head of the Gamalei Center.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation approved the first and second phases of clinical trials of the drug on groups of volunteers from 18 to 55 years old.

According to the scientist, the vaccine has been developed using a new technology based on virus-like particles for a long time. The virologist notes the special relevance of the vaccine in the conditions of constant coronavirus mutation.

"Now there are new very different variants, but it will be quite easy to introduce new antigenic variants into the composition. This is in case several variants of the coronavirus are circulating in the population at the same time, which is now being observed," Alexander Ginzburg noted. In his opinion, it was initially assumed that the omicron strain would displace the delta strain by 100%.

"Depending, it seems to me, on the region, delta circulates on a par with omicron. The vaccine will be relevant in the future if it passes all the tests, the scientist explained.
