Thanks to the work carried out, over 90% of the memorial's buildings and monuments will be renovated - some structures have not been repaired for half a century. For instance, in the southern barracks, interior finishing work is being completed and lighting is being installed.
According to Alexander Korkotadze, director of the memorial complex, the significance of landmarks such as the Star and the main monument needs no explanation. Meanwhile, the bridge at the "Thirst" monument has not undergone major repairs since 1971. "Therefore, it is impossible to diminish the importance of any of these objects," he emphasized. "Everything within this unified complex has been thoughtfully designed so that our visitors can better appreciate the defense of 1941 and the feat of our soldiers."
The main goal of the restoration is not only to preserve the unique ensemble, where the ruins of the ancient fortress coexist with monuments of Soviet monumental art, but also to make the sites more accessible to visitors. Soon, tourists will be able to feel the history of this iconic place even more deeply.
