Rivers of Friendship art project brings Tatarstan artists to Minsk

The international art project “Rivers of Friendship - 2026. Tatarstan – Belarus” was presented at the House of Friendship in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The year 2026 is a jubilee year for the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries. To mark its 100th anniversary, artists from the Kazan branch of the Professional Union of Artists of the CIS prepared an exhibition that became the basis for the large-scale art project.
Chairwoman of the Kazan branch and member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia Lada Ayupova spoke about the project, introduced the painters who came from Tatarstan and presented several paintings to the House of Friendship as a gift.
According to her, the art project “Rivers of Friendship - 2026. Tatarstan – Belarus” is a logical continuation of a series of exhibitions organized by the Kazan branch of the Professional Union of Artists of the CIS ten years ago, in 2016. The first exhibition was held at the House of Friendship of the Peoples of the Republic of Tatarstan in 2016. The second exhibition, supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, was held at the House of Friendship in Minsk in 2016 and was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries.
The paintings featured in the new exhibition celebrate the culture, nature, history and people of Tatarstan. The year 2026 also marked the 140th anniversary of the birth of great Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukay. His challenging life and profound lyricism have touched many hearts. He lived only 26 years but left behind poems and verses that have been translated into Russian by many poets. Artists from the Kazan branch of the Professional Union of Artists of the CIS dedicated a plein air session to the anniversary of Gabdulla Tukay. Some of the paintings created during the session were presented to visitors at the House of Friendship in Minsk. The exhibition was complemented by heartfelt works by young talents from Kazan.
The importance of developing creative ties with Tatarstan was highlighted by Chairwoman of the Presidium of the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Nina Ivanova and Belarusian Union of Artists member and Corresponding Member of the International Academy of Culture and Art Leonid Gomonov.
The program of the delegation of artists from Tatarstan features a visit to the Brest Fortress. This is not accidental, as one of the brave defenders of the Brest Fortress in 1941 was a Tatarstan native and Hero of the Soviet Union Piotr Gavrilov.
