Ministry of Internal Affairs: child crime has declined in the last 10 years

"Over the past 10 years, child crime has decreased by half," Vasily Demidovich, deputy head of the Department for organizing the work of the Juvenile Affairs Inspectorate of the Main Department for Law Enforcement and Prevention of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, ещдв a press conference at the National Press Center, the correspondent of the portal Soyuz.by reports.

"According to the results of last year, we had an unfavorable situation related to an increase in the number of crimes involving children. At the same time, if we trace the dynamics of child crime, let's say, over the past 10 years, we note its significant decrease," the speaker said. So, as an example, he cited several figures: if in 2015 2.800 crimes committed by children were registered in Belarus, then last year 1.400 crimes were registered. Accordingly, child crime has declined in 10 years.
The structure of the crimes themselves, according to Vasily Demidovich, has also undergone a number of changes.
"In 2015, about 60% of crimes committed by children were theft. In quantitative terms, this is 1.500 crimes. For example, only 1.400 crimes were committed by children last year. Although, as I said, there were 1.500 thefts in 2015," the Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesman said.
It was noted that the surge in child crime last year was due to two facts. "The first fact is the growth of drug trafficking. The number of crimes of this type increased by 33%. The second fact was crimes related to the illegal circulation of bank payment cards. Unfortunately, drugs have not disappeared this year either. Despite the fact that we state that at the moment we have a decrease in this type of crime by 25% (from 20 to 15 crimes), almost every week we find children for drug trafficking," Vasily Demidovich shared.
He also said that 4 types of drugs prevail among minors: A-PVP, 4-SMS and mephedrone. The main reasons for drug use by children are, first of all, the desire to assert themselves, then the example of adults, the search for new sensations, as well as internal problems - either in the family or in a close environment. Among the reasons for participating in the illegal sale of drug substances is the desire to earn quick and easy money, according to minors.
