Belarus intends to participate in efforts to create constellations of space nanosatellites, learned from Aleksandr Tuzikov, Director General of the Joint Informatics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), at a press conference on 10 April.

The official said that several Belarusian-Russian R&D programs are being reconciled with the Russian Federation. One of them – Kosmos-SG – represents a continuation of the Monitoring-SG program, which was completed in 2017. The new program is aimed at creating small satellites and constellations of nanosatellites, Aleksandr Tuzikov noted.

In his words, not only large spacecraft are launched into orbit. Constellations of compact satellites and nanosatellites are launched as well. Nanosatellites are handy for monitoring Earth and watching the near-Earth space. They are cheaper and easier to insert into orbit. “However, there are a number of unresolved issues that need to be addressed: how such constellations should be controlled and how data should be received from them. This is why we would like to work with the Russian side in such a promising area as satellite constellations,” Aleksandr Tuzikov added.
