There are no preconditions for a war, Ukrainian politician and statesman Alexander Moroz told reporters after he met with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 14 February, BelTA has learned.

“It is true, people are worried about the situation. Ordinary people are always anxious about a possibility of wars and the like. Although, for the most part, people are absolutely indifferent to what is happening, because they understand that there are no prerequisites for a war,” Alexander Moroz said.

In particular, he mentioned the Belarus-Russia military drills that prompted a discussion at the international level. “Moscow's Minister Lavrov says: this is our business, we are conducting the drills on our territory. He is right,” the Ukrainian politician noted.

Speaking about the possibility of NATO's eastward expansion, Alexander Moroz noted that for 30 years he has been speaking against it, because it changes the geopolitical situation in the world: “This should not be done. After all, they promised and gave verbal guarantees [that NATO would not expand eastward].”

“We need to negotiate, talk, think about how to avoid confrontation,” Alexander Moroz said.

He noted that the majority of the Ukrainians positively assess the way Belarus is developing. “This is confirmed by our people who moved here, all in all more than 200,000 people came to live in Belarus,” the politician emphasized.
