The sanctions of the West are aimed at the total destruction of the sovereignty and independence of Belarus, at the undermining of its statehood, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview with China Central Television, BelTA has learned.

The foreign minister recalled that Belarus came under sanctions after the 2020 presidential election, and afterwards the sanctions kept piling up.

“By imposing these sanctions Western countries showed their blatant disregard for even basic decency. Laws are changed only to punish this or that country. They declare their support for the sovereignty and independence of Belarus, but in reality all these sanctions are aimed at the total destruction of the sovereignty and independence of Belarus, at the undermining of the statehood of Belarus. Of course, we absolutely reject these sanctions,” Vladimir Makei emphasized.

He noted that the sanctions against Belarus' potash fertilizers could complicate the situation on the global food market. “A number of countries have already said they might face a famine due to the shortage of potash fertilizers, while Belarus supplied almost a fifth of potash fertilizers to the global market. They have forgotten about the pandemic, about the fight against global warming, but these are real threats and large-scale challenges that threaten the entire humankind. Therefore, I think that these hasty moves by Western countries will have a very strong impact on sustainable development of our planet in the future - in the economic, political, environmental, and all other dimensions,” the foreign minister noted.
