We are witnessing not only an acceleration of the arms race, but also an increased militarization of our region, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at a meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus on 18 February, BelTA has learned.

“The global confrontation, which has moved from a latent to an open phase, is accompanied by a sharp increase in economic competition for resources and technologies, the struggle for control over critical supply chains, and the desire for ‘geopolitical use' of territories of third states. We have witnessed not only an acceleration of the arms race, but also an intensive militarization of our region,” the foreign minister said.

Vladimir Makei noted that against the backdrop of intensifying information wars, Western and some other mass media outlets and internet resources are aggressively trying to push the idea about the inevitability of a new big war.
