Foreign ministers of Belarus, Russia meet in Minsk

Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia Sergei Aleinik and Sergey Lavrov are holding a meeting in Minsk, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This is their first meeting since the appointment of Sergei Aleinik as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus. The meeting precedes the working visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Minsk.

“During the conversation, the foreign ministers discussed specific topical issues, the efforts to counter the illegal sanctions of the West, as well as interaction on international platforms. They also touched upon trade and economic cooperation matters and the implementation of joint projects. The ministers scheduled the meeting of the collegiums of the foreign ministries for the second half of January 2023,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.

Sergei Aleinik and Sergey Lavrov noted that 2022 marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Russia. “In this regard, they emphasized the need to keep building up Belarus-Russia cooperation amidst unprecedented external pressure in order to improve the well-being of people of the two countries,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
