Belarus ambassador presents credentials to Brazil president

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Brazil Sergei Lukashevich presented his credentials to Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro in Brasilia, BelTA has learned.

During the ceremony the Belarusian ambassador and the Brazilian president discussed political, trade and economic relations.

The parties also touched upon the supplies of Belarusian potash fertilizers for the Brazilian agro-industrial sector.

Belarus and Brazil established diplomatic relations on 10 February 1992. This year marks 30 years of Belarusian-Brazilian diplomatic relations.

Brazil is Belarus' main partner in foreign trade with Latin American countries and is among the countries with which Belarus has the most significant volumes of trade. Belarus' main exports to the Brazilian market include potash fertilizers, unalloyed steel wire, linen fabric, tires, polycarboxylic acids and their derivatives, insecticides and herbicides, control or measuring devices and profile projectors, fiberglass, cord materials for tires, machinery and mechanisms for harvesting and threshing crops.

The COVID-19 restrictions have undoubtedly affected the development of bilateral contacts. The parties look forward to increasing contacts in the post-pandemic period.
