"The heads of state - Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko - have done everything to ensure that our countries are sovereign, so that we have the opportunity to plan our own future," said Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia and Chairman of the State Duma, speaking at the plenary session of the Union State Youth Forum "The Role of Youth in Preserving and Protecting Historical Memory," a Soyuz.by correspondent reports.

"The war went through all families, affected us all. Someone's grandfather died, someone's uncle, relatives, and for our country this is not just a bloody war, it is a fight for survival, it is a fight for the right to live, for freedom, for our statehood," said Vyacheslav Volodin.

He noted that despite the fact that today the Soviet people represent different states, the conscience and memory of the dead must be preserved and honored by everyone. "And, we must give credit, within the Union State of Belarus and Russia, we understand this in the same way. We are probably the closest to realizing this. And today's conversation is simply like a conversation between brothers, like a conversation between those who not only talk about memory, but also do everything to protect it. In this regard, I want to say that we often, when things are good, take it for granted."

"The heads of state - Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko - did everything to ensure that our countries were sovereign, so that we could plan our own future," Volodin emphasized.

According to him, history, culture, language and faith are the basis of a nation's identity. "Our leaders did everything to ensure that we preserved our identity."

Vyacheslav Volodin also added that representatives of Belarus and Russia within the Union State and the parliamentary dimension solve common problems. "We are doing everything to ensure that the period of history where our grandfathers stood shoulder to shoulder to the death is protected. And this strengthens our relations. Brings each other closer," said the Chairman of the State Duma.
