Belarus, Russia to develop joint digital platform for red dairy cattle breeds

During the meeting, the parties signed an agreement to establish a joint digital platform for red dairy cattle breeds in the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The document was signed by Olga Lukonina, Director of the All-Russian Research Institute of Breeding, and Aleksandr Portnoy, Director General of the Scientific and Practical Center for Animal Breeding of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The digital platform will serve as a tool for tracking the genetic potential of livestock herds, carrying out breeding programs, and exchanging breeding stock between the two countries. “We have strong expertise in pedigree breeding and cattle rearing and are ready to develop cooperation and exchange best practices with our Russian colleagues,” Igor Dorofeichik said.

Roman Nekrasov highlighted the long-term prospects of cooperation in this area. “An analysis of the global market shows that beef production will continue to grow over the coming decades. We have plenty of areas to work on together, both in technology and in breeding,” he said.

The establishment of the joint digital platform will lay a scientific foundation for accelerating the development of beef and dairy cattle farming in the Union State of Belarus and Russia, enhancing the sector’s competitiveness in global markets.

The parties also discussed Belarusian-Russian beef cattle farming projects, exchanged best practices in advanced breeding technologies, and expanded their competencies and cooperation in the production of veterinary medicines.
