The defense ministers signed the resulting documents. Belarusian Defense Minister, Lieutenant-General Viktor Khrenin stated that the key event in the training of the armed forces of Belarus and Russia next year will be the joint operational exercise Union Shield 2027. “Operational training and combat training of the armed forces of Belarus and Russia remains an important avenue of interaction. The key event next year will be the joint operational exercise Union Shield 2027, which is designed to demonstrate the resolve and the ability to jointly uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our states and to ensure further improvement of the military security system of the Union State [of Belarus and Russia],” he said, stressing that the exercise will be purely defensive in nature.
Viktor Khrenin also noted that participants of the board session compared notes on a number of topical matters: counteracting attempts to falsify the history of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, military technology cooperation, and the organization of joint operational training and combat training events.
Viktor Khrenin summarized: “Results of today’s session have once again confirmed the unity of approaches of the defense ministries of Belarus and Russia to interaction in the defense sphere and our determination to accomplish practical tasks to ensure the military security of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.”
Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov stated that important decisions on ensuring the military security of the Union State had been made during the regular session. “Special attention was paid to matters concerning the operation of the regional force grouping of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation and the joint air defense system. At the same time, joint operational training and combat training of the troops remains a priority avenue of our interaction. We will continue actively introducing the experience gained in the course of [Russia’s] special military operation [in Ukraine] into the training process and practicing new methods and tactical techniques of warfare. The decisions made today will contribute to stronger cooperation between the defense ministries of Russia and Belarus,” Andrey Belousov clarified.
