Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko welcomed his Mongolian counterpart Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh at the Palace of Independence, where the heads of state will hold official talks, the press service of the Belarusian leader reported.

The talks between the leaders of the two countries are preceded by an official welcome ceremony featuring guards of honor, the playing of the national anthems of Belarus and Mongolia, and the introduction of delegations from both sides.

“We did not waste time yesterday [during an informal meeting] and spent three hours discussing the current state of affairs in our relations and tried to draw up a roadmap for our cooperation. To put it briefly, we agreed that we need to start cooperation in earnest. And to build a solid building, you need a strong foundation. And we decided that we should start with three good, concrete projects that would form the basis of our cooperation,” the Belarusian leader said during the one-on-one talks.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that the effect of such projects should above all be felt by the peoples of the two countries, and they should understand that the sides are serious about cooperation.

The Belarusian President recalled how two years ago, during his visit to Ulaanbaatar, the parties took the first major official steps in bilateral cooperation. “The current visit [of the Mongolian leader to Belarus] will be historic in the sense that we will build our cooperation plan. That is, we will complete what we started two years ago in Ulaanbaatar,” the head of state said.

He drew attention to the fact that Belarus has a whole range of advanced, powerful technologies and areas of development that Mongolia very much needs. “We have agreed: if you like something from this set of technologies and areas of our development, and it is needed for our friendly country, we are ready to cooperate in that direction and identify those two or three projects I mentioned,” the President said. “Yesterday we agreed in a friendly way that you can try everything in Belarus that interests you, touch it with your own hands and take the appropriate decision if you like it.”

“You must understand that all doors are open to you here. Please, look, draw conclusions, take it on board. We will help and assist you in fulfilling all the planned programs and the promises you made in the recent election campaign in Mongolia,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also assured that Belarus, once agreements are reached, will be unconditionally committed to implementing them. “We are dependable people; we will fulfil our obligations on time and in full. We would very much like our Mongolian friends to act in the same spirit. In carrying out our part of the obligations, we will not point to complications and difficulties. We exist precisely to overcome these complications and difficulties. They have always been and always will be. They may be even more difficult than now. So, while overcoming these difficulties, we must move forward and fulfil the agreements,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

Belarus and Mongolia have a mutual desire to fill their friendly ties with practical content and to bring the peoples of the two countries even closer to each other. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during expanded-format negotiations.

Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled that he visited Ulaanbaatar in 2024. It was the first ever top-level visit in the history of bilateral relations. “That visit left me with the warmest impressions. Communication in the hospitable Mongolian capital helped formulate the joint interests of the parties and sketch out a plan for achieving top-priority goals,” he said.

During the Mongolian leader’s visit the parties are exchanging instruments of ratification of the treaty on friendly relations and cooperation, which was signed two years ago.

In 2027 Belarus and Mongolia will mark the 35th anniversary since the establishment of the diplomatic relations.

Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that Minsk and Ulaanbaatar share a similar geopolitical position: both countries are located between the world’s largest players. “We are destined to strive to be strong ourselves and to help our neighbors find points of contact, especially in crisis periods. In this regard it is simpler for you now: China and Russia cooperate in an exemplary manner. It is more complicated for us. As has happened more than once in Belarus’ history, we have found ourselves at the epicenter of the standoff between the West and the East,” the Belarusian leader stated.

“This is why you and I understand each other perfectly. Hence the coincidence of the views of Belarus and Mongolia on many international matters and the attention you show to our initiative on security in Eurasia,” the Belarus President added.

Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke in detail about prospects of advancing trade and economic cooperation with Mongolia but stressed that mutual interest is not limited to the economy alone. The roadmap on cooperation in 2027-2029 that is being signed also stipulates tasks in the spheres of science, culture, sport, tourism, and healthcare. Apart from that, agreements on interaction in the customs and information spheres and on interregional cooperation are being concluded. “Government agencies and organizations should use them as applied documents, as a basis for concrete joint projects,” the President said.

“I would very much like your current visit to Belarus to produce concrete practical results. Trust me, we will be reliable friends for you. And Belarus has everything that Mongolia needs today. The doors in Belarus are open to our Mongolian friends,” the head of state assured.
