The situation around our states remains complex and dynamic. Under these conditions, our joint work is not a formality, but a practical necessity, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said at a meeting of the joint board of the defense ministries of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Defense Ministry.

Speaking at the meeting, Viktor Khrenin highlighted the results of allied cooperation in various fields: “Belarus and Russia are strategic allies and partners, bound not only by treaty obligations but also by shared values, a common history, and a shared responsibility for security within the Union State space. The past period has been a time of intensive and meaningful work for our defense ministries. We have moved on to the practical implementation of the Strategic Military Partnership Program for 2026–2030, which was approved at the previous board meeting in Moscow. The bilateral military cooperation plan for 2026 includes more than 160 joint events, most of which involve practical training: drills, exercises, training camps, and exchange of experience.”
He emphasized that all troop training today is built around the modern warfare. The experience gained in real combat conditions (unmanned systems, electronic warfare tools, robotic complexes, and new tactical techniques) is immediately integrated into the Belarusian army’s training system. The Russian colleagues are sharing their cutting-edge expertise, which is one of the most valuable aspects of the alliance.
“We pay no less attention to military-technical cooperation. The mutual supply of military products continues, cooperation between our defense industries is deepening, and the combat capabilities of the regional group of forces and the unified regional air defense system are increasing. Nuclear deterrence on the territory of the Union State is also being developed – in the interests of strategic parity and deterring a potential aggressor,” Viktor Khrenin said.
The Belarusian defense minister noted the significance of the strategic partnership between Belarus and Russia in the context of the military-political situation: “Active combat training and intelligence activities are being conducted near our borders, the military presence on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s eastern flank is increasing, and attempts to destabilize and provoke in the information space continue. It is precisely the unity of Belarus and Russia that allows us to steadily keep the situation in the region under control.”
