Vitebsk is hosting the 61st session of the Interbank Currency Council of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, BelTA has learned.

Participating in the event are leaders of financial institutions, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus Roman Golovchenko and Russia's Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina, and representatives from major financial institutions of both countries.

“I am happy to meet with you and discuss the pressing issues of our cooperation in the financial and banking sectors for the benefit of our countries and peoples. I would like to emphasize that our platform [the Interbank Currency Council] serves as an effective discussion forum, successfully operating for many years and contributing to the strengthening and development of multifaceted economic cooperation between Belarus and Russia within the framework of the Union State," Roman Golovchenko stressed.

Elvira Nabiullina pointed out that it is important to review the current economic state and the functioning of the banking systems of both countries. "I have no doubt that the discussion will be traditionally beneficial. The format of the Interbank Currency Council has already proven to be effective, serving as a valuable tool for addressing relevant issues," she stated.

Established in 1999, the Interbank Currency Council focuses on developing interstate agreements in banking, harmonizing financial regulations to ensure equal conditions for economic entities of both countries, and providing recommendations for coordinated monetary and currency policy.

Elvira Nabiullina also noted that the Russian delegation is happy to visit one of Belarus' oldest and most beautiful cities. She congratulated the session’s participants on the 80th anniversary of the Soviet people's victory in the Great Patriotic War.
