The International Grand Prix Freestyle wrestling tournament in memory of Medved started in Minsk

The international Grand Prix Freestyle wrestling tournament in memory of three-time Olympic champion Alexander Medved has started at the capital's Chizhovka Arena, BelTA has learned.

The competition brought together athletes from 11 countries in the capital. The preliminary and semi-final matches in five categories for men (up to 61, 70, 79, 86 and 125 kg) and in five weights for women (up to 50, 57, 59, 65 and 68 kg), as well as the finals of the tournament "Medvezhonok"among boys and girls under 17 years old will take place at the Chizhovka Arena today.

Tomorrow, consolation and medal fights will be held in these weight categories, and Friday's program also includes the start of competitions in the weights up to 57, 65, 74, 92 and 97 kg for men and in the categories up to 53, 55, 62, 72 and 76 kg for women. The last sets of Medved Memorial awards will be awarded on February 15.

Live broadcasts of the fights are available on the YouTube channel of the Belarusian Wrestling Federation. The international freestyle wrestling tournament was first organized in Minsk in 1970. For more than half a century, competitions have been held for the prizes of Alexander Medved, who passed away last September.
