Belarusian weightlifter Yevgeny Tikhontsov won a bronze medal in the 102 kg category at the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games, the official telegram channel of the National Olympic Committee reports.

According to the results of two exercises, the result of the weightlifter at the Paris du Sud arena was 402 kg (183 kg +219 kg). After the jerk, the Belarusian started confidently in the second exercise and coped with a weight of 214 kg. His next approach at 219 kg turned out to be successful.

President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko congratulated Yevgeny Tikhontsov on winning the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

"Thousands of fans were waiting for this success and believed in you. In the fight against the strongest athletes in the world, you demonstrated high skill, backed by a steely character, and rose to the Olympic podium," - the congratulation reads.

The Head of State expressed confidence that the worthy performance of Belarusian weightlifters in the Olympic Paris will serve as a good incentive for coaches who work productively at all stages of sports training.

Alexander Lukashenko wished Yevgeny Tikhontsov good health, peace, prosperity and new great victories for the glory of Belarus.
