Zyuganov praises Belarus for preserving dignity, traditions, independence

People in Belarus feel they are treated with dignity, Gennady Zyuganov, the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Russia, the leader of the CPRF faction in the State Duma, said in an interview with ONT TV channel.

Speaking about Belarus and its role on the global political stage, Gennady Zyuganov said he has great respect for Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko.
“I take him as an example in many ways. He defended your independence, stood firm under strong pressure, and did so to get rid of the oligarchy. You have no organized crime. People in your republic feel they are treated with dignity. When you come to Minsk, you understand that you are in a city that welcomes and respects you. There is no garish, intrusive advertising here, nobody grabs you by the coat-tails. Minsk has a different atmosphere,” Gennady Zyuganov said.
According to him, Belarus managed to hold its ground after the collapse of the Soviet Union thanks to its character, national traditions and the feat of its ancestors.
“Every second communist, every third Belarusian and every sixth citizen of the USSR died in the war. Belarus suffered huge losses, but preserved its soul and patriotism. It is in the blood of every one of you. I felt it when my Oryol and Brest became sister cities. Whenever I visited, I felt it in every home, yard and school,” Gennady Zyuganov said.
According to him, Belarus has set an example in virtually every area of economic and political life.
“You have bilingualism, you have not rejected the values of the Soviet era. You understand that security is the highest value. You have entered the top five safest countries in the world and ranked first in the post-Soviet space. You have no gold, diamonds, gas or iron ore, but you have culture, traditions and that inner dignity that has allowed you to double your potential, preserve your machine-building sector and become not only recognized but respected,” Gennady Zyuganov said.
He also said that the Red Line TV channel, a CPRF party project, had produced 15 documentaries about Belarus on various topics, from patriotic education to labor migration.
“People should take an example from you. And we should bow to Lukashenko, who showed courage at the most difficult moments. So you deserve congratulations, and others should learn from you,” Gennady Zyuganov said.
