The “Lyalki nad Nemanam” festival in Grodno will bring together theatres from Belarus, Russia, China, and Uzbekistan

From September 16 to 20, Grodno will host an international puppetry festival, BELTA reports.

More than 150 theatre professionals will take part in the festival; 14 theatre groups from Belarus, Russia, China, and Uzbekistan will present their performances for children of different ages and adults.
The organisers are the culture department of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee and the Grodno Regional Puppet Theatre.
According to Maria Shabashova, director of the Grodno Regional Puppet Theatre, among the participants are groups that are already well‑known to the Grodno audience and have been coming for several years. An event will be the participation in the festival of the Central Quanzhou Marionette Theatre from China’s Fujian Province. A particular source of pride for the organisers is the performance within the festival programme by a well‑known Russian group - the Maly Puppet Theatre of St. Petersburg - with a plastic production. And for the Shakespearean production ““A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be staged on the large stage of the Grodno Drama Theatre for the adult audience of the Ryazan Regional Puppet Theatre, as it won’t fit on the puppet theatre’s stage.
On September 16, the V International Festival “Lyalki nad Nemanam” will be held in an open area next to the puppet theatre. The creative festival will kick off with this year’s premiere by the Grodno Regional Puppet Theatre - the performance “Symon the Musician”.
