Scientists at Fudan University in Shanghai have come up with a small device which can detect coronavirus in samples from the nasopharynx in less than four minutes. The scientific journal Nature Biomedical Engineering reports.

The Chinese scientists tested the COVID-19 sensor on 33 volunteers in whom the virus had previously been detected by PCR testing, as well as on 54 healthy citizens. All the test results from the new device were accurate.
Scientists said that the new rapid test is used to quickly and supersensitively detect SARS-CoV-2 ions, biomolecules and ribonucleic acid. The diagnostic procedure itself takes no more than four minutes from the collection of biomaterial to the final result and has reliability equal to that of PCR tests.
In the last few months, Russian and foreign specialists have created several variants of test systems that detect traces of the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus in blood samples or patient secretions. As a rule, they are based either on detection of fragments of the RNA of the causative agent COVID-19 using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and its analogues, or on the detection of antibodies to a new type of coronavirus.
