Law on citizenship updated in Belarus

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No. 302 to amend other decrees of the head of state. The document was passed following the amendments to the law “On the citizenship of the Republic of Belarus”, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

In particular, the decree regulates procedural issues such as the introduction of a new institution, the restoration of citizenship, and the expansion of foreigners and children eligible for the acquisition of citizenship under simplified procedure.

The document specifies the procedure of submitting materials to the president on the loss of Belarusian citizenship by naturalized persons due to the participation in extremist activities or inflicting serious damage to the interests of Belarus. The decree also regulates the process of terminating proceedings concerning the application for citizenship in cases envisaged in the above-mentioned law.

Besides, because of the forthcoming introduction of biometric documents the decree specified the list of documents which should be provided by applicants for the acquisition or termination of citizenship.
