“The Belarusian People's Congress is an important mechanism of direct people's democracy. The congress is similar to the ancient people's assembly which gathered to discuss the most urging issues,” Vyacheslav Danilovich said.
According to him, the country is in a very difficult geopolitical situation today. “In fact, a hybrid war is unfolding against Belarus, and yet in these conditions we are preparing for the Belarusian People's Congress, which should help us to record the basics of our statehood, to determine how we should confront modern challenges, when in fact there are attempts from the outside to split the Belarusian society, to divide our country. We cannot allow this, and in this environment it is very important to consult with the people, to get support in order to move forward calmly and confidently, despite any obstacles that external forces are trying to create for the country and our people,” the rector stressed.
He also noted that Belarus had always been at a geopolitical crossroads. “For thousands of years, invasions from both the west and the east rolled through our lands. We must remember that despite the years of the hardest military history, our people, our ancestors survived, preserved this territory and defended their right to decide for themselves how to live and develop. This sovereign right to determine one's own future cost the life of many Belarusians, and we must value it,” said Vyacheslav Danilovich.
