Polotsk hosts celebrations to mark the 900th anniversary of the founding of the Spaso-Eufrosiniev Monastery and the memory of Euphrosyne of Polotsk

On 4 June 2025, the Polotsk Spaso-Eufrosinievsky Metropolitan Nunnery is hosting celebrations to commemorate the memory of its founder, the Venerable Euphrosyne, Abbess and Princess of Polotsk, and the 900th anniversary of the founding of the monastery.
The celebrations are attended by clergymen, abbesses of monasteries in Belarus and Russia, representatives of state authorities, integration structures, public associations, and numerous pilgrims.

In the afternoon, a traditional procession led by Archpriest Sergius Gramyko, rector of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, travelled from the town of Glubokoye to the monastery. Every year at the beginning of the festive services pilgrims come to the Polotsk monastery to take part in the glorification of the Monk Euphrosyne, to venerate her relics and ask for prayerful help from the holy protector of White Russia.
In the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Cross, the clergy of the monastery served the Small Vespers with the Akathist to the Monk Euphrosyne. Then the festive all-night vigil began in all the churches of the monastery.
On 5 June after the late Divine Liturgy, which is usually presided over by the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, all those praying will go to the ancient Church of the Saviour. On the cathedral square they will be joined by a procession coming from St Sophia Cathedral, and then a prayer service with akathist to St Euphrosyne will be held at the Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour.
On 6 June, after the Liturgy, a procession will be held around the three churches of the monastery to commemorate the great journey that was made with the relics of the Belarusian saint in 1910 from Kiev to Polotsk.
The divine service will be broadcasted by the TV channels Belarus 3, Spas, Soyuz and the YouTube channel of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.
