Number of loss-making farms in Belarus decreases in Q1 2023

The number of loss-making farms decreased in Q1 2023, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats said in an interview to the Belarus 1 TV Channel, BelTA has learned.

Speaking about the results of the first quarter of this year, Leonid Zayats noted that the number of unprofitable farms lessened. “Last year there were 106 of them. Today we have only 68. The amount of losses decreased by 17%, financial liabilities of agricultural enterprises went down by 2%. The gross output of agriculture in all categories of farms made up 103% as compared to the first quarter of 2022. There was an increase in the production of livestock products, milk and, livestock and poultry in general. This gave the possibility to supply additional 81,000 tonnes of milk and 9,000 tonnes of meat to the processing plants. A certain volume of food products was formed to satisfy the needs of its consumers by 100%. Surplus products were sold. Foreign currency proceeds from meat and meat products amounted to $20 million,” the deputy prime minister said.
The domestic market has no shortage of dairy products today, he stressed. “As for the external market, sales remained at about the same level as last year. Our main market is the Russian Federation. We have increased supplies there by almost 18%. We have increased the supply of products to China by 17%,” Leonid Zayats said.
