Foreign currency sales by individuals exceed purchases by $26.3m in Belarus in 2022

In 2022 the amount of foreign currency sold by natural persons in Belarus exceeded the amount of foreign currency that Belarusians bought by $26.3 million, BelTA learned from the statistics released by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB).

In 2022 individuals bought the equivalent of $10.032 billion in cash and cashless forms and sold $10.059 billion worth of foreign currency. In December 2022 the net demand of natural persons for foreign currency totaled $109.6 million.

Commercial entities residing in Belarus acted primarily as buyers of foreign currency in 2022. Based on the central bank's data, corporations bought $1.328 billion worth of foreign currency more than they sold. Belarusian legal persons bought a total of $27.707 billion worth of foreign currency and sold $26.379 billion in 2022.

In December 2022 foreign currency purchases by legal persons exceeded sales by $400.9 million.
